Aston Martin Rapide

It has been almost three years since Aston Martin first revealed the Rapide as a concept car. Just now in the recently held Frankfurt Motor Show, the British car maker has finally unveiled a production model of the car.

The Rapide comes with  a hand-built 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 470 horsepower with peak power being delivered at 6,000 rpm and 443 pound-feet of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. It will also feature a specifically tuned six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission. This system will allow the driver to change gear automatically or manually via the steering column-mounted magnesium paddles.

The Rapide will also be the first Aston Martin to be built outside her majesty’s royal kingdom; this is due to a partnership with Magna Steyr.

Because of the strong response to the Rapide, Aston Martin said that it will build between 1,000 and 2,000 units per year, that is atleast 50 percent more than the original estimate of 500 units.

Given a strong interest in the Rapide, Aston Martin says it will build between 1,000 and 2,000 units per year, up from an original estimate of 500 or less.
