BMW Canada has finally divulged the official specifications for the 2011 BMW 335is coupe and cabriolet. According to the legit info, both cars will be using a 320-horsepower all-aluminum 3.0 liter inline-6 that’s capable of up to 332 ft.-lb. of torque.
BMW’s decision to de-tune the engine is reportedly due to conflicting reasons actually, with one official saying that the six-speed manual transmission mated to the engine could not tolerate more power. Another reason is that the move’s for marketing reasons, and yet another one states that the car uses a more restricted intake. However, with a temporary overboost, the twin-turbo engine produces up to 370 ft. lb of torque. And to keep the more powerful engine cool, an extra radiator has been installed along with a stronger engine fan.
The 2011 BMW 335is Coupe and Cabriolet will also feature xenon headlights ringed in LEDs, LED tail lights, and a glossy exterior trim. A full M aero kit is also included, as is a collection of M Sport interior parts. 18-inch light alloys will come as standard as it can be upgraded to 19-inch M-badged alloys.
As a Coupe the car sprints to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds with the seven-speed double clutch. Add 0.1 seconds when using the six-speed manual. As a convertible, the car reaches 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds with either gearbox.
US specs on the car are expected to be the same, reaching 60 mph in 5.0 seconds with the DCT, and 5.1 seconds without. Pricing on the coupe is reported to start at $50,525 with delivery. Convertible pricing should start at $59,075.
