It has already been 25 years ago when BMW created a new subsidiary to act as a think tank for their vehicle development. Since then, BMW Technik GmbH has been brainstorming concept cars, one of them is the BMW Z1 Coupe design study shown off in 1988.

After confirming that a new front-wheel drive model is under development for the BMW brand, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer now validates that the company is also readying its first-even three-cylinder engine.

According to a recent interview, Reithofer revealed BMW is working on a new family of engines, with three-, four- and six-cylinder variants planned. The planned engine family, which will include gas and diesel units, is mainly being designed for BMW’s upcoming front-wheel drive offerings. However, some may be seen in rear-wheel drive BMW models.

In an attempt to revive the Alpina name in the North American market, BMW has announced that it will debut an all-wheel-drive version of the luxury-oriented tuning firm’s B7 at next week’s New York International Auto Show.

Alpina operates separately from BMW, but the German automaker views the tuner as a natural, more exclusive, luxury performance-oriented complement to its internal M Division. Alpina debuted the rear-wheel-drive B7 last year and now it says that the B7 xDrive will be coming to dealers.

New information about BMW’s Z4 GT3 has been officially released.

The new GT3, which is designed for private racing teams, features aggressive styling and advanced engineering. It also has a 1,200 kilogram (2,645 pound) curb weight due in part to the components constructed from carbon fiber reinforced plastic, such as the front and rear wings, bonnet, roof and fenders.

The Z4 GT3 is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 that comes with more than 480 PS (353 kW / 473 bhp). The ECU408 engine management system backs up the engine which is mated to a six-speed sequential transmission with a “Quick Shift” function.

Nowack Motors has announces a new performance package for the BMW X5/X6 M, the N700 4.8.

The package features a complete overhaul of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine of the BMW car. According to Nowack, customers simply need to “deliver a standard X5 M or X6 M” and they’ll ‘strip it back to a skeleton.”

This is no ordinary tune up as Nowack completely takes apart the standard engine (leaving only the external parts of the engine unchanged) so it can be bored and honed. Then, the company installs oversized pistons, a new crankshaft, high performance connecting rods, new valve pockets, larger intake valves, free-flow cylinder heads, and special valve springs.

A new speed bicycle has been developed by BMW’s M division which will surely attract the more serious cycling enthusiast’s out there. The BMW M Bike will be produced in a limited edition, and will be sold both online and through certain BMW dealerships.

The 12.9 kg (28.4 lb) bike will be offered in three different frame heights. It is made out of high-grade aluminum, and also shows off the Manitou Match front suspension fork. The springs used in the suspension have an 80-millimeter deflection.

Vorsteiner has just released a line of aero enhancements for the BMW 7 Series short wheelbase and long wheelbase. Called the BMW VR-7 Sportiv Aero Package, it covers aerodynamic components that enhance the car’s looks to give it a more aggressive yet elegant appearance.

The front end features a VR-7 carbon fiber add-on front spoiler, a carbon fiber add-on rear spoiler and a rear diffuser. The front spoiler gives more downforce and stability in handling. The suspension was also lowered by 48mm (1.9 inches).

The Lumma CLR X 650 M is based on the BMW X6 M. It features an aggressive body kit with new bumpers, aerodynamics side skirts, extended fender flares, and a rear diffuser. It also received a new black grille, a massive rear spoiler and 23-inch wheels.

The 2011 model year BMW M3 is rumored to carry an M3 GTS Competition Package as an option.

The package will be available to US M3 owners and enthusiasts who want a bit more aggression and performance from their M3s. However, the US was unfortunate enough to be not included on the GTS global list.

BMW Canada has finally divulged the official specifications for the 2011 BMW 335is coupe and cabriolet. According to the legit info, both cars will be using a 320-horsepower all-aluminum 3.0 liter inline-6 that’s capable of up to 332 ft.-lb. of torque.

BMW has just announced its US pricing details for the upcoming 2011 740i and 740Li.

The 740i and 740Li are both power-driven by a twin-turbo 3.0 liter inline-six engine. The engine produces 315 horsepower and 339 ft-lb of torque. That power makes the 720i accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 6.9 seconds. The same acceleration is made by the 740Li in flat six seconds.

Good news has just been announced by BMW. They will be offering the 2011 Alpina in North America. The E65 B7 may be remembered to have only been available in North America as a limited edition in 2007 and 2008. And to be ready for the re-launch, BMW has already debuted the F01 based BMW-7 Series in Geneva last year, then as a long-wheelbase F02 in Tokyo just a few months ago.
