Trim Kits Released for Dodge Nitro

A week before the North America’s International Auto Show in Detroit, Chrysler has released new trim packages today. The latest to that list of trim packages is the Nitro Heat, Detonator and Shock.

The base Nitro, which is now called the Nitro Heat, gets its previously optional 4.0 liter, 260-horsepower V6. It will also come with 20-inch painted alloy wheels, Bluetooth, cruise control, an alarm and Sirius satellite radio. The Nitro Heat starts from $23,995, with destination included.

A new turn-key racer from Dodge has just been unveiled. The new Viper ACR-X, which was obviously based on the ACR, is a track-only race car that is set to compete in the Viper Racing League, the Sports Car Club of America, and the National Auto Sport Association.

The Viper ACR-X will be powered by an 8.4 Liter V10 engine that produces 640 horsepower. The Viper ACR-X also received a few performance enhancements thru a specially-tuned sports suspension (which brings down the car’s weight by 160 pounds), improved aerodynamics, and a complete safety package that includes a roll cage, fuel cell and race seat.

Chrysler has just announced that it will be adding a second shif to the Dodge Calibers production line at the company’s Illinois factory. The Dodge Caliber was part of the top ten most sought after cars under the government’s cash for clunkers program.

According to Automotive News, Chrysler will create a second shift on October 5. The additional shift will need the help of 850 workers and is expected to make 10,000 extra units.

Chrysler has currently updated the Dodge Caliber for the year 2010, however, not all Caliber trim levels will be making it for next years upgrade. According to Dodge the Caliber SRT4 will be discontinued for 2010.

With the current success of Ford’s new commercial van the Transit Connect, Mercedes has also announced that it will be joining the van wars and will be removing its Sprinter van line from Dodge dealers. Since 2003 Dodge dealers has been selling the Mercedes made Sprinter, but Mercedes will cancel their contract from Dodge and the Dodge dealers will cease selling the vans come January 1.

Despite the removal of the Dodge name, the Sprinter will not be leaving the U.S. market. Instead, Daimler will be selling the Sprinter through Mercedes-Benz dealers as a Mercedes-Benz brand – under the newly created Daimler Vans USA.

The Dodge Challenger SRT10 is a concept vehicle unveiled during last year’s SEAM show. It has an 8.4-Liter all-aluminum V10 engine –the same engine that powers the Dodge Viper—producing 600 horsepower and a torque of 560 pound-feet.
