A replacement for the Land Rover Defender is reportedly under works. The new SUV has been given the greenest of green lights by parent company Tata. The now 62-year-old go-anywhere-and-then-some truck is expected in 2014, and is being worked on now under the codename Project Icon.

Although it may look like that nothing has yet been decided about Project Icon other than its codename and its status in the line-up, which is at the very top. Coming up with a new retail name for the Defender line and finding a way to differentiate it from the previous model will be part of the work to be done, as well as coming…

With the recent confirmation that Land Rover is going ahead with the production version of the LRX, the British car maker has also announced that it has stopped its plans for a seven-passenger version of its LR2 SUV. Plans for a seven-passenger version of the LR2 broke out a year ago.

The seven seater SUV was being developed under the name L486, but the entire project was put on hold in order for Land Rover to concentrate on other projects like the LRX small crossover utility vehicle.

The sever seater is basically a long wheelbase version of the LR2, if everything went according to plan, the sever seater will be released as…

The Land Rover Defender may not be a best seller in North America in the last couple of years, but it continued to thrive in other parts of the world. Now the dated workhorse will give way to a thoroughly modernized variant reportedly codenamed Project Icon for the 2012 model year

The new Defender will be based on the T5 steel platform chassis currently used in the Range Rover Sport and LR4. Also according to Britain’s Autocar, Project Icon will create a Defender that will meet the ever-stricter emissions and safety laws.

The new chassis will allow the next generation Defender to be made in different bodystyles like a hard and soft…

The Land Rover LRX was first revealed at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. It has been almost two years since the unveiling of the LRX and now Land Rover has finally confirmed that it will send the LRX onto production.

The British car maker is actually marketing the vehicle as a small Range Rover. So the final name of the vehicle is yet final. We’d wager it might be called Range Rover LRX, but that’s pure speculation.

Along with the announcement came a new rendering of the production model.

“Feedback from our customer research also fully supports our belief that a production version of the LRX Concept would further raise the desirability of…

Land Rover Managing Director Phil Popham said every aspect of the LR4’s vehicle design and engineering has been improved.

Expected to go on sale late this year, the 2010 Discovery 4 is being marketed as the most capable Land Rover ever. It is powered by a 5.0-Liter LR-V8 engine producing 375 horsepower which is a 25% increase from the output of its…

The government of the United Kingdom is set to give out $38 million to Land Rover to help the auto maker go green in its quest to build an SUV based on the Land Rover LRX concept. The two-door LRX, which has been described as a cross coupe, debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It is touted to be the lightest, most efficient and smallest ever vehicle from Land Rover. It helps that aside from the County Classic it is also the most attractive auto produced by the manufacturer.

There is a possibility that the Land Rover concept will be introduced as a 2011 model once…

When you talk about durability blended with elegance, the Land Rover Freelander should be your preferred compact SUV. On and off-road, like any other classic Land Rovers, this big toy does spell power and might.

Its engine performance is obviously great with a fuel consumption that’s reasonable at 20 mpg or even less, plus a 60 mph speed in just about 8.4 seconds. Its state-of-the-art Terrain Response system is most fitted and reliable in rough or off road. But Freelander equally shows off even on tarmac. In fact, it also works better and mostly recommended for long distance travel as its wide refined cabin exudes comfort and safety.

What adds up to its…

For you off-road enthusiasts, get a quick look at the 2008 Land Rover LR3, one of the raddest, most baddest, most versatile 4×4 road cruisers we’ve seen in this season’s round-up. As always, the LR3 looks proud and pretty on the outside, but on the inside, it’s got the guts of a workhorse.

Under the hood, the 2008 Land Rover LR3 is powered by a 4.4 liter V-8 engine that’ll squeeze out 300 horses with its six-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, all that power sacrifices some of the fuel efficiency, and it’ll only find its way to 17 mpg on the freeway, and as low as 12 mpg in town. Even with its…
