Mercedes-Benz’s Geländewagen might not be the newest design on the market – its basic structure and style dates back to 1979 – but that’s not stopping the German automaker from installing a state-of-the-art BlueTEC diesel powertrain under its boxy hood.

The new V6 diesel engine cranks out 210 horsepower and 398 lb-ft. of torque, but the best news is the nearly 20 mpg combined fuel economy figure, according to Mercedes-Benz. Given the G350’s boxy shape and portly curb weight, the reduction in fuel consumption is nothing short of remarkable. For comparison, a G550 averages about 13 mpg combined.

A 753-horsepower limited edition vehicle will be introduced at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show by Carlsson. The Carlsson C25 hypercar will be limited to only 25 units and will be produced once it debuts in March.

Based on the Mercedes SL 600, the car is powered by a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine that can make the car accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h with up to 1150 Nm of torque.  However, once you go faster than 100 km/h, the car will make use of 1320 Nm.  Top speed is at 352 km/h (218.7 mph).

Mercedes-Benz is planning to introduce their newest set of modifications, the Mercedes Sport program, for their line of cars. The modification program will be first available on the E-Class Cabrio, Coupe, Estate, and Saloon after the aero kit is introduced in Geneva next week.

Included in the Mercedes Sport program are the striking eighteen-inch light alloy wheels in glossy black and silver. New front aprons, front spoiler, and matching side skirts are available as well as roof and deckled spoilers.  The new rear apron looks like it includes a cosmetic diffuser. As these items are add-ons, there’s no need to a replace the original body parts.

The Supervisory Board of Daimler AG has announced on Wednesday that it has signed Dr. Dieter Zetsche to a three year contract extension. Zetsche – best-known to most Americans as Dr. Z from DaimlerChrysler commercials – is Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

The 56-year old Zetsche has been a member of Daimler’s Board of Management since 1998 and was made Chairman of the Board of Management in 2006. A Mercedes ML-Class was seen doing some runs on a wintry day in Europe’s Route 45 recently. The spied vehicle, though padded and concealed with tape, showed the LED lights fitted on its façade.

LED lighting is also used at the back of the vehicle, which is expected to be shorter than the current generation.  Other speculative rumors suggest the SUV will have sportier styling.

Mercedes GP has revealed the colors they will use in on their cars for the 2010 world championship last Monday.

Shortly right after, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg donned their uniforms—featuring a black nose and a turquoise sheen in respect to title sponsor Petronas—in front of hundreds of media representatives.

Meanwhile, the car that will be used in the championship will be unveiled and tested in Spain next Monday. The vehicle will be called the MGP W01.

Two special editions have just been announced by Mercedes-Benz; the SL Night Edition and the SLK Grand Edition.

The SL Night Edition dons a degino mango night black matt paint finish with a matching 19-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels in a two-tone gloss finish and darkened lights on both sides. A Night Edition badge can also be seen on the front wings. Inside, the black nappa leather highlights the all-black theme of the SL Night. Michael Schumacher ends all rumors of his return in F1 with his contract signing to Mercedes Grand Prix. The contract will bind Schumacher as Nico Rosberg’s teammate for 2010.

This is the second time that Schumacher strived to make a comeback at the F1 grid. Last year, he already had agreed to replace Felipe Massa for Scuderia Ferrari but was prevented by a neck injury. Now, he confidently joins Mercedes.

Micheal Schumacher is returning to the formula one grid next year. But he will most likely be not driving a Ferrari, just as he used to for the past years.

Confirming the news to the international press is Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo at a Christmas dinner. He said that during a conversation with the 40-year old German, it has been mentioned that there is a strong possibility that he will race a Mercedes next year. Shumacher has won five of his seven world championships until 2006 for the Italian.

Väth releases new details of their own version of CL 65 AMG.

The company offers an engine tuning package with reprogrammed computer, “inlet optimization with an air collector”, and an advanced cooling system. With the package installed, the engine now boasts 745 horsepower and up to 1,150 Nm of torque. The car is now capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just four seconds, before reaching its top speed of 340km/h.
