U.S. Auto Sales to Reach 11.8M Units Next Year

According to experts the worst of the economic downturn is likely behind us. Due to this they predict that the United States auto market will reach as high as 11.8 million units next year, a new study finds. If the prediction turns out right it will be the first year-on-year sales increase since 2005.

Based on CSM Worldwide latest sales forecast, the North American auto sales will reach to 11.8 million units in 2010. The forecast makes a 600,000 unit increase over CSM Worldwide’s previous forecast.

“The move reflects cautious optimism that we will see gradual improvement in core market fundamentals following the first quarter of next year,” CSM analyst Joe Barker…

Fisker Automotive - makers of the Karma plug in hybrid car has just announced that it have recently made a deal with the United States Department of Energy for a $528.7 million loan. The loan which is part of the Department of Energy’s $25 billion Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program will be utilized to complete the Karma Sedan and also fund the Fisker’s new Project NINA.

Indian automaker REVA who is more known for its G-Wiz electric car has just announced two new models which will be released in the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Reva will utilize the Frankfurt show to reveal the production version of its new NXR electric vehicle as well as the NXG concept.

Fisker Karma to Average 67 miles to the gallon

Fisker has just confirmed that its 403-horsepower Karma high-performance luxury hybrid can run an average of 67 mpg in the combined cycle. It will also just emit 83 g/km of CO2. Also according to Fisker the green sedan will cost about $0.03 per mile to run.

Production of the Karma is slated to begin late 2009, it will be sold at the base price of $87,900 in 2010.

Japanese Car Markets First Sales Increase in a Year

For the first time in 13 months August sales in Japan rose, this was also the case in the United States. This is probably one sign that the global car market is poised for a rebound in the coming months.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Japanese car sales totaled 198,265 units this August and that is excluding the minicars. This marks an increase of 2.3 percent compared to the sales of August 2008. Hybrid cars also saw an increase in sales; this is mostly due to the $1,600 government incentive.

Toyota has posted an increase of 9 percent equaling to 90,802 units sold, Lexus has done well to post 1,745 sales.…
