Volvo has just announced that they will be adding two new models to its ultra-efficient DRIVe range for the UK market: the DRIVe variants of the S80 sedan and V70 wagon.

The DRIVe variants of the S80 and V70 are both powered by Volvo’s own 1.6 liter turbocharged diesel engine. Even the engine is not the most powerful at 109 horsepower and 177 ft-lb. of torque, it still can provide for a combined 52 mpg US.

After the world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Volvo announces the pricing for the 2011 C70 convertible model. The Volvo C70 will be tagged $41,650, which includes a destination charge of $850.

The latest version of the C70 comes standard with a five-speed automatic transmission, Sirius Satellite Radio and “Sovereign Hide” leather trim, all features Volvo said would have tacked on $4,000 to the 2010 model.

At the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit an all-electric Volvo C30 will debut. The debut will mark the next evolution of the Volvo towards clean and sustainable energies.

“The first prototype helped us identify the main technological challenges,” said Lennart Stegland, Director of Volvo Cars Special Vehicles, “such as battery packaging and safety issues. We have addressed these challenges without compromising the C30’s cool and fun-to-drive personality. I am very happy with the result. The electric C30 in Detroit is a much more complete product.”

The standard Volvo C30 1.6D DRIVe already offers eco-friendly technologies such as the stop/start with brake-energy recovery system and fuel consumption of 3.9 Liters per 100 kilometers.

After the facelift by Heico Sportiv, the C30 1.6D DRIVe has power and torque from 80 kW (109 bhp) and 240 Nm to 92 kW (125 bhp) and 280 Nm. Volvo may now be in limbo while waiting for a new owner, but did not stop the Swedish carmaker from announcing that they have plans to create a plug-in hybrid powered by both an electric motor and a diesel engine set to be on the market in Europe during the 2012 calendar year.

Though now details are not yet clear, Volvo said that it expects the cars range to be around 1,200 kilometers, or about 745 miles. CO2 emissions would be around just 49 g/km, which is half of what is considered low by today’s standard.  Also according to Volvo the fuel economy would average out to around 125 mpg.

Volvo has just revealed its revised version of the C70 convertible at the recently held Frankfurt Motor Show. The revised model is almost mechanically identical to the last model, but the new C70 has been given a new, more dramatic look outside and some revisions to the interior.

The new C70 design was heavily influenced by the S60 Concept the previewed at last January’s Detroit Auto Show. Volvo has currently not been attracting a lot of interest from international buyers. However, one Chinese company is willing to put a bet on the Swedish Brand. China’s Geely previously said that it was not interested in buying Volvo, but according to the latest reports from China the privately held automaker will pursue the Volvo brand.

According to Reuters, Geely’s parent – Geely Holding Group Co. – plans to enter a bid for Ford’s Volvo brand. Geely’s bid would be for the outright purchase of the Volvo brand rather than a partial stake.
