Mitsubishi took advantage its being at the LA Auto Show on Wednesday to announce its plan of bringing the Colt supermini to North America.

The Colt, which will arrive at US dealers sometime in 2010, was recently redesigned. But any dramatic changes won’t be necessary unlike the current European model. One thing that is uncertain is if the Colt that will be available in the US will be 3-door or 5-door models, or if both will be available.

The European Colt comes with a standard 1.5 Liter MIVEC four-cylinder engine that produces 104 horsepower and 104 pound feet of torque. The US-bound Colt’s engine might have some changes to accommodate the consumers’ power expectations.

Mitsubishi also offers a Colt Ralliart model in Europe. It is a sportier version of the supermini, but comes with the same engine.
