In just eighteen months, the Mitsubishi’s all-electric i-MiEV will be disembarking in the US. But already the Japanese automaker is planning to bring also a gasoline version of the minicar in its US dealerships. The gas version of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV—which is i—is by now available in Europe and Japan. When i enters the US market it will be competing with Smart’s ForTwo.
The i is powered by a turbocharged 660cc engine, but will likely be upgraded to a 1.0 Liter three-cylinder for the US market. The ForTwo uses the same engine, and is the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid vehicle in America.
The European i sells for the equivalent of $16, 000, but would likely to come down for US sales.
