Due to the 30 million earning since its opening in 1981, The Mechanical Compact Gearbox Production will extended their manufacturing unit in France to 7,000 square meters which already compromised some 42,000 square meters of existing buildings.
The extension of Valenciennes plant in France’s Nord Pas de Calais region integrates PSA Production System (PPS) technology that makes the site more efficient and competitive. Its production capacity will increase from 1,500 to 2,625 units.
The plant normally produces four different types of transmissions and the additional two units will focused on the newest designs for the mechanical and the other one will focus on the automated unit that activates the clutch and gear changes robotically.
The new gearboxes are six speed units and the automated version is known as the MCP. Both of the units can help reduce fuel consumption by up to five percent. Its operation will starts in February 2010.
The PSA will invest €83 million for the extension to be able to produce more vehicle designs and increase its sales and marketing eventually.
