Tesla is planning on building a right-hand-drive variant of the Tesla Roadster electric car. Tesla’s first RHD model is currently at the automaker’s dealership in London, and is being made available for test drives.
The Tesla Roadster RHD has an estimated 200-mile range, with recharge taking around four hours on a 220-volt outlet. It can accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, and has an electronically-limited top speed of 125 mph.
Although, there are rumors spreading that Tesla may cancel the Roadster after all as an IPO filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission said that Tesla does “not plan to sell [the] current generation Tesla Roadster due to planned tooling changes at a supplier for the Tesla Roadster.” As Wired reports, the two-seater is based on the Lotus Elise, and a new generation of the Elise is expected for 2012.
In the UK, the Tesla Roadster will have a starting price of £86,950, and is not subject to the London congestion charge. The entire purchase price of the car may also be tax deductible in the U.K. Tesla says they will sell the car worldwide.
